The Lake Natron in Tanzania is one of the serene and beautiful lakes in Africa but underneath its colourful disguise lies a hidden sorcery , that turns animals into the stones. Nick Brandt is an English photographer, whose work mainly focuses on the human animal conflicts and the impacts of human behaviour on the nature. While visting the mysterious Lake Natorn, Nick enclosed these stunning pictures in his camera of animals frozen in time.  The reason for the calcification of animals is the high soda and salt content. One assumption is that , when the birds fly over the lake, the high refelective nature of the lake confuses the birds, making them to crash land into the water, then the high ph of the water , slowly turns them into stones as they die and dry out. The alakalinity is so high that it can burn the skins of the animals that are not adapted to the lake, Nick wrote in his book, Accross the ravaged land, "the water has an extremely high soda and salt coentent, so high that it would strip the ink off my Kodak film boxes in few seconds."
