Alappuzha/Alleppey is one of the best places to visit in Kerala, part of the amazing Kerala backwaters this destination never disappoints the travellers.  Alappuzha is known as the Venice of the South, due to the canals and waterways on which the local population depends upon for livelihood.  This backwater destination in Kerala has many tourist spot, which offers a wide varieties of activities for the travellers.  This picturesque tourist spot in Kerala is blessed with serene lagoons, lakes, long stretch of beaches that are lined with the coconut groves and the amazing seafood.  Alappuzha is famous for the traditional rice boats known as the Alleppey house boats, these boats are turned into luxury floating hotels, which now attracts thousands of travellers.  Apart from these tourist spots Alappuzha is rich in wildlife, the backwaters of Alappuzha attracts a large number of migratory birds, making it one of the best places in Kerala for birdwatching.

1.    Krishnapuram Palace


Krishnapuram palace is a historical tourist place to see in Alappuzha, built in the 18th century by the King of Travancore called Maharaja Marthanda Varma. Now it has been turned into a museum the palace is famous for the Mural paintings and traditional Kerala style architecture. This tourist spot in Alappuzha is best for history lovers as the museum exhibits some of the best historical sculptures, paintings and bronze antiques. 

 

2.    Kuttanad


Kuttanad is known as the rice bowl of Kerala is a major place to visit in Alappuzha. This tourist spot in Kerala lies below the sea level with an elevation of -10 feet, quite amazing place.   The green paddy field and interconnected waterways make it a unique tourist spot in Kerala.  One of the main reason for travellers to visit Kuttanad is the food, the backwaters produces some of the best fishes in Kerala, prepared in unique Kuttanadan style the food itself can make travellers addicted to this place.  

 

3.    Alappuzha beach

Located 32 kilometres south of Alappuzha Mannarasala Sree Nagaraja Temple attracts a large number of religious travellers. 

 

5.    Ambalapuzha temple


Ambalapuzha temple is a famous temple in Kerala known as Dwaraka of the South and it is famous for Ambalappuzha Payasam, which is a sweet milk porridge. Travellers often visit this temple to taste the Payasam. Apart from that the temple walls are covered with Mural paintings. 


6.    Marari beach 


Marari beach is one of the least explored beaches in Kerala, on a clear day this beach in Alappuzha can kill all your tension and boredom. The less crowded beach has a mix of beautiful white and golden sands, less crowded means it is one of the cleanest beaches in Kerala. The colour full fishing boats parked under the coconut groves and the beautiful sunset makes it a beautiful place to visit in Alappuzha.
