Chandragiri lies 3 kms south of Kasaragod town and the place is famous for its large square Fort situated above Chandragiri River. The Fort was built in the 17th century by Sivappa Nayak of Bednore. The river, on the bank of which the Fort rises marked the boundary between Kerala and Tuluva Kingdom.The Fort offers a breath taking view of the river and the Arabian Sea. It is a famous tourist spot to view the sunset. There is a beautiful bridge over the river located 5 miles away from Chandragiri and a long railway tunnel passes through Chandragiri. Boat trips to nearby islands and palm groves is one of the major attractions. A mosque is situated nearby and the view of the bridge with the mosque in the background is one of the most attractive sights on NH 17 during the drive. Chandragiri Fort is a must see destination in Kasaragod.
