Dakshinachitra is a place to see in Kanchipuram district an art village situated near Muttukkadu on the way to Mamallapuram. It was founded by the Madras Craft Foundation. The centre showcases the heritage of the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Here you can see models of traditional handlooms and the replicas of the kinds of houses of the four south Indian states. Kanchipuram silk weavers and other craftsmen and the weavers work here and give live demonstrations of their skill for the visitors. Dakshinachitra museum is an amazing place to visit in Kanchipuram as it gives a great insight into the south Indian culture and history.
The Art Village is closed on Tuesdays and travellers must pay an entry fee of Rs.50 for Indians, Rs.25 for students, and Rs. 175 for foreigners and Rs. 70 for foreign students.
